Colas was tasked with laying a new road and repairing the runways in Greenland with asphalt that was certified, they were also requested to carry out continual seasonal highway maintenance for years to come.
Client:
Colas Denmark
Products Used:
Processed asphalt plannings and bitumen blocks.
Challenge:
The challenge is there are no local asphalt plants, and the work to be carried out is in several very remote locations and isolated islands around Greenland.
Transporting hot asphalt to these locations would be very expensive, create a lot of waste and difficult to manage.
Solution:
Greener Asphalt Solutions supplied two of our Mobile 5ton Asphalt Mixers with feed hoppers to be transported to the locations requiring the hot asphalt on demand.
Colas had several thousand tons of granular pre-blended asphalt (RECOL) in 1-ton bags delivered to the sites.
The asphalt paving team then mixed the asphalt and paved as required throughout the day, averaging around 80+ tons per day.
Result:
Colas can now self-supply hot asphalt in any location around the world, no matter how remote. This allows them to carry out runway repairs, resurfacing and the building of new roads, to improve community infrastructure where otherwise it would be too expensive to do so.
