Sandwell MBC purchase and use of AS5000 Asphalt Recycler 

We first started looking into asphalt recycling back in March 2025 through Greener Asphalt Solutions. They arranged a demonstration of their 1‑ton machine, and we were genuinely impressed with the quality of the material it produced. That led us to explore their larger units, and we soon learned that a local contractor was already running the 10‑ton static version. 

To get a proper feel for how the process would work for us, we took planings from one of our patching jobs to their site, ran them through the recycler, and brought the material back to relay. The results were good, consistent, workable, and exactly what we needed, so we began seriously considering investing in our own machine. 

Greener Asphalt visited our site to understand our set‑up and operational requirements. They advised on the best solution based on the output we needed and the space we had to work with. From there, we settled on the AS5000. After running viability checks and value‑for‑money assessments, we agreed that outright purchase was the most sensible option. 

We took delivery of the AS5000 in April 2025, and installation and commissioning took around a week. In the two months since we started using it, we’ve already recycled 250 tons of material. A full 5‑ton mix takes roughly 45 minutes from loading to completion, with smaller batches taking less time. The recycled asphalt has been used across carriageway defect repairs and minor patching works, and the benefits have shown themselves quickly.
